While the Global 16 days of Activism against Gender Violence Campaign is in full swing, also Palestinian women observe these days in the local Ihna hon نحنا هون we are here campaign which was initiated by women from Silwan, in East Jerusalem supported by local NGOs (Jerusalem Center for Women, Madaa Creative Center and Diyar Consortium).

Ihna hon نحنا هون in Arabic means we are here. Palestinian women want to make sure that they are noticed, seen and heard in their family homes, in their communities and within their society.

Ihna hon نحنا هون also indicates the women’s roots in their beloved country Palestine and their right to be here and being treated with respect and dignity.

The theme for this year’s Global campaign is: From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Let’s Challenge Militarism and End Violence Against Women!

This year’s 16 days campaign comes at a time when numerous Palestinian women are suffering and mourning following the latest Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip.

Palestinian women are confronted and exposed to both, militarism and violence against them. This is why in addition to various activities planned during this years campaign a social media campaign – a facebook page and platform for exchange – was created to connect with women locally, and also regionally and globally. Women should gain strength through stories shared, grow hopes for a better tomorrow and be empowered to plan for joined action to end the cycle of violence against women on all levels.

Take the time to check out this initiative, let yourself be inspired by content shared and join in to show your support!
